Citizens for Modern is excited to announce a unique opportunity for older adults to take part in a Haunted History Tour of Sheldon Concert Hall on Monday, Oct. 1. The tour is part of CMT’s Ten Toe Express® Program’s Special Guided Walk Tours, designed to help individuals experience how easy it is to integrate walking with public transit use to explore many of the region’s cultural and entertainment hot spots. The walking group will depart from the Shrewsbury-Lansdowne

I-44 Transit Center (7201 Lansdowne Ave) at 9:15 a.m., take the MetroLink to the Grand MetroLink Station (3560 Scott Ave) and walk to Sheldon Concert Hall from there. Registration is required and can be completed tentoes.cmt-stl.org.

Chris Peimann, with the Sheldon Concert Hall and Art Galleries, will lead the walk, which is approximately one to two miles in length, round trip. The excursion will include walking, riding the MetroLink and a tour through the concert hall, ballrooms, galleries and backstage. Participants will learn stories of the founders and architects, including the mysterious and perhaps even supernatural incidents that are part of this 107-year-old building’s lore.

“Halloween is right around the corner, and this time of year is synonymous with haunted houses and ghost tours,” said Kimberly Cella, executive director of Citizens for Modern Transit. “We are excited to offer new and existing Ten Toe participants access to the Haunted History Tour as part of the Fall 2019 Special Guided Walks.”

Ten Toe Express® is a 12-week walk program offered every Spring and Fall. Participants take part in weekly, guided Walking Tours, as well as special walks like the one set for Oct. 1. Each is led by a trained volunteer walk leader who helps familiarize walkers with the transit system and how it can be utilized to reach destinations. It also serves as an opportunity to exercise and connect with others in the community.

New Ten Toe Express® registrants receive a Ten Toe Express Walking Kit that includes a tote bag, a pedometer, a Metro system map, and four free transit tickets for MO residents or a fun promotional item for IL residents. Ten Toe Express participants also have access to Citizens for Modern Transit’s Ten Toe Express section on its website, which includes a complete catalog of walk maps available for printing or downloading, and the ability to report walk logs and track personal success.
