Bowling Alley's Historic Sign Gets New Life

The owners of Crestwood Court believe an entertainment-focused development is the key for reviving the nearly vacant mall space along Watson Road. The District at Crestwood would boast a movie theater, comedy club, live entertainment restaurant, and a bowling alley that's "a little more modern" than nearby options.

Crestwood Bowl, however, is embraces its Route 66 nostalgia. The alley has been a fixture for Crestwood families since the late 1950's, and customers say it's a favorite because of how little time has changed it. Its original sign is even designated as a county landmark by the Historic Buildings Commission of St. Louis County. 

But its lights fizzled out a few years ago.

Route 66 Corridor Preservation Program recently awarded the bowling alley a $9,500 grant to restore the sign. The restaurant has scheduled a public re-lighting ceremony for sunset on Oct. 20, according to Route 66 News.
