Learn more about Butterfield, from the Crestwood-Sunset Hills Chamber:

The Crestwood/Sunset Hills Kiwanis is pleased to announce Bonnie Butterfield as the 2013 Bernard J. “Jimmy” Fidler Citizen Service Award honoree. In her professional career, Bonnie worked for Quest Diagnostics, first as a medical technologist and then as a compliance officer. At the time of her retirement, she was Director of Compliance for the Central Region of Quest Diagnostics, a region consisting of nine states, and, in that position, coordinated the functions of the compliance officers of each lab in that region.

A number of years before retirement, Bonnie’s job brought her and her husband, John, to the St. Louis area where they purchased a house in Sunset Hills and joined St. Thomas/Holy Spirit Lutheran Church. She soon became very involved in the life of the church and took on several positions of leadership. Bonnie has served her church as stewardship committee chair, chair of the personnel committee, and vice-president of the congregation council. She has just completed her first year as president of the congregation, a job that took on a whole new range of responsibilities when one of the clergypersons leading the church retired and the other one left to pursue advanced studies.

Bonnie also volunteers for the American Red Cross by serving on one of their Disaster Action Teams, or DATs. A DAT is an emergency response group sent out by a local chapter of the Red Cross in response to a fire, flood, tornado, or other such disaster. The Team’s job is to assess the immediate emergency needs of disaster clients and determine how the Red Cross can help by providing food, shelter, clothing, and other emergency services. For example, in the Bridgeton tornado several years ago, Bonnie worked for about a week canvassing neighborhoods to do damage assessments and client casework. The DAT also brings food and drink to the firefighters and other responders.

In a complete departure from her other service activities, Bonnie also helps Nurses for Newborns by sewing baby clothes that can be given to their clients. Service is and always will be an important part of Bonnie Butterfield’s life. Jimmy Fidler would be pleased to honor her with our Citizen Service Award.
