Driving Range In Full Swing Despite Lights Washout

Large bucket of balls costs $9—that's 10 cents a hit. Not bad.

Sunset Lakes Driving Range on the flood end of W. Watson Road is dry and busy this week.

Although the winds and water washed out the driving range lighting system, it's still open from 8am - sunset. The owner is waiting on insurance money that would get the range lighting back up and running.

However, it stays light so late anyway during the summer, golfers can be out almost until closing time, 9pm, regardless.

Manager Nick Halloran works the counter most days, on leave from college in the summers. Is it busy?

"It's going pretty good," Halloran said between golfers buying buckets, on Wednesday afternoon.

The driving range has a special Father's Day golf lesson gift card—buy dad a $50 lesson (or more) with golf pro Kiran Kanwar, Class A member LPGA, the PGA (UK) and PGA of India. Contact 314-488-5981.

The range is next door to the Sunset Lakes Golf Club, a golf course. So, perfect your drives and putting before (or after) a round of golf. Both are public facilities.
