Lindbergh Teacher Spends Summer Vacation Helping NASA

Sappington Elementary School physical education teacher Mary Driemeyer spent a week helping NASA develop a new program for students.

Sappington Elementary School physical education teacher Mary Driemeyer recently spent a week at the NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas helping them develop content for a new program.

Driemeyer assisted NASA's Human Research Program Education and Outreach in creating the Train Like an Astronaut program, according to a news release from the school district. In the program, students ages 8-12 take part in activities that mirror the physical requirements for traveling in space. Students also learn about nutrition and physical education. Driemeyer was invited as a past Teacher of the Year honoree through the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.

The Train Like an Astronaut is a program geared toward students ages 8-12. Students take part in physical activities that are modeled after real-life physical requirements for humans traveling to space, according to the release. Students also learn about nutrition and physical fitness through hands-on activities.
