New Sign Hits the Ground at Sunset Hills City Hall

Computer-generated text is expected to alert residents to activities at the new Community Center and other city functions.

Contractors installed a new sign on Sunset Hills's City Hall Complex front lawn Wednesday afternoon that will be lighted and display variable text messages highlighting city activities.

The cost of the sign alone was approximately $43,000. Installation required electrical connections and a raised base of dirt with a low stone retaining wall.

It's located on the south side of the main driveway into City Hall, along southbound Lindbergh Boulevard.

Parks and Recreation Director Gerald Brown estimated that some 30,000 cars pass by the Sunset Hills site every day. Brown expects to advertise programs and the Fitness Center at the Community Center on the sign.

A second sign was replaced along the same main driveway with a simple wooden sign, pointing the way to other locations on the city government campus—police, public works and others.

Bill Yount Signs and Electric supplied the signs and provided installation.

A traditional sign from 2007 will likely remain on the Lindbergh side of City Hall, announcing the Sunset Hills complex.

Alderman Frank Hardy said the new signs add the words "City of" just above the name Sunset Hills, somewhat straying from the present city logo.

The new sign also apparently blocks the view somewhat of approaching northbound cars on Lindbergh Boulevard as drivers sit at the stop line in the city complex driveway, looking to turn left onto Lindbergh.
