Panel will Study, Recommend Enrollment Growth Solutions

Data shows the Lindbergh School District's residential enrollment grew by 569 students between 2007-08 and 2012-13.

In the next five years, Lindbergh Schools expects to add 464 students. That means by the 2017-18 school year, enough news students will have been added to fill 23 additional classrooms, with most of the growth being at the elementary level.

In a proactive stance, the Lindbergh Schools Board of Education approved allowing for a Demographic Task Force that will study and propose solutions to the district’s rapidly increasing enrollment. specifically at the elementary level.

The enrollment influx is no surprise to district administrators. The school district purchased Dressel School in July 2011, a district press release states.

Community members, Lindbergh staff and parents will comprise the task force charged with exploring the matter in-depth. The two biggest concert with the dilemma will not only be beefing up space, but also teachers.

The district said Sappington Elementary School will grow to more than 600 students in the upcoming 2013-14 school year, and said all of the classrooms built with Prop R 2008 funds have been filled.

The district cites its achievement reputation as a reason people are moving into it, but doesn't attribute it to new home construction. Instead,  many families are moving into existing homes people without children once occupied.

"As a result, the majority of new students do not bring any additional revenue with them," the district press release states. "Funding for additional students is another issue the task force will address.

"Ninety-two percent of Lindbergh’s revenue is composed of local taxes."
