South County Resident Surprised with $5,000 Scholarship
Matt West surprised with a scholarship to WGU Missouri on KMOV's Great Day St. Louis program

MISSOURI- A graduate student from South St. Louis County was surprised with a scholarship to WGU Missouri live on KMOV’s Great Day St. Louis program on June 14. Matt West, who recently graduated from the university with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing Management, appeared on the show with WGU Missouri Chancellor Dr. Angie Besendorfer to discuss his educational journey. He was shocked when Dr. Besendorfer and host Matt Chambers announced he was receiving a $5,000 scholarship to help him complete his master’s in management and leadership, which he will begin in July.
“This means everything,” commented West after he was awarded the scholarship. “I’m very thankful.”
This is the second scholarship West, who works as a graphic design specialist at Lutheran Senior Services, has received from WGU Missouri. When he first enrolled in 2016 to complete his undergraduate degree, West received a $2,000 “New Kind of You” scholarship. Scholarships are one of the many tools WGU Missouri offers to help remove obstacles from the path of students who are interested in furthering their education and improving their career opportunities.
