Sports Medicine & Training Center Celebrates 20 Years!
20th Anniversary as a small, family-owned business.

Saint Louis, MO, July 19, 2022 — Sports Medicine & Training Center (SMTC) is excited to celebrate 20 years of business on August 19, 2022. Since its inception, SMTC has operated as a small, family-owned physical therapy and fitness training center.
The concept for SMTC was conceived during the summer of 2001 by its founder, Scott Van Nest. After a number of years working in corporate and hospital settings Scott wanted an opportunity to treat his patients as he saw best.
“I was looking to treat with fewer constraints on care imposed by insurers or corporate operatives, who too often make medical decisions impacting patient care without having patient needs properly in focus,” Scott said.

He also wanted to bring together concepts from multiple disciplines, including physical therapy, athletic training, osteopathic medicine, and exercise physiology.
“I wanted to create an integrated system of physical therapy and fitness/performance training that would help my patients return to their highest possible level of function and fully participate in activities important to them,” Scott said.

His passion to create a welcoming, effective and patient-centered practice inspired Robbie Van Nest, his life, and now business partner, to embark on a mid-life career change. She left the field of research biology to become a medical office manager.
“I knew zero about anything related to running a medical office, or how to manage a small business and its staff,” Robbie said. “It’s been the challenge of a lifetime to learn to do all these things and see the effort translate into meaningful results for our patients.”
The Van Nest family feels honored and grateful to have long-tenured staff embracing the company’s philosophy as well as patients who trust them with their care, and often refer their friends and family.
To celebrate, SMTC is planning an anniversary celebration and client appreciation event to coincide with the City of Crestwood's 75th anniversary Celebration Day on October 15, 2022.
