MO Loses 2 Congress Seats in 30 Years; Public Hearing Friday in St. Louis On Pending Changes

A pubic hearing with state legislatorsnis set for Friday 10 a.m. at Harris-Stowe University, Emerson theater with committee chair.

JEFFERSON CITY —  Since Missouri will lose a seat in the U.S. Congress this year based on a drop in population determined by 2010 U.S. Census figures, a public hearing is scheduled for Friday in the St. Louis area with State Sen. Scott T. Rupp, R-.

Rupp serves as chair of the Senate Select Committee on Redistricting.

“These public hearings provide committee members the opportunity to hear first-hand from citizens about how they feel regarding the redistricting process currently underway by members of the Legislature,” Rupp said.

The open hearing is 10 a.m. Friday at Harris-Stowe University's Emerson theater in St. Louis.

The Senate Select Committee on Redistricting is responsible for re-drawing congressional district lines to reflect the changes in shifting population in the state.

“As chairman of this important committee, it’s my job to make sure that any changes made to district boundaries fairly represent all Missourians in our state,” Rupp said.

After the 1980 Census, Missouri dropped from 10 to nine Congressional seats. The results of the 2010 Census takes the state from nine to eight seats.
