Sunset Hills Alderman Opposes Current Dog Park Proposal

Last Week Sunset Hills-Crestwood Patch reported from the board of aldermen meeting, the City of Sunset Hills recently secured a $220,000 St. Louis County Municipal Parks Grant to create a new dog park on the 4-acre at Eddie & Park Road behind Truman Middle School. There is currently a ball park that would be removed.

Half of the property will be used as a dog park, with a shelter for owners. The other half will have walking trails, a picnic shelter and playground.

Crestwood residents will be able to use the park. The City of Crestwood recently passed an agreement between the cities for use and maintenance of the park.

But roughly 65 people signed a handwritten petition against the dog park according to Tom Lynch, who spoke against the dog park on behalf of several residents.

It appears Alderman Tom Musich also is for changes to the current plan for the park.

Musich told KMOX one problem he has with the proposed plan is it would eliminate the ball field that many use. 

Musich calls the proposal a shameful mismanagement of tax dollars.

“This project needs to be scaled back in accordance with other dog parks in the St. Louis area,” he told KMOX. “We should change the location of the proposed dog park to an area that would not interfere with current youth and family recreation."
