Sunset Hills Mayor Says Two-Parcel Owner Confuses Task Force with Legal Board

Sunset Hills' Mayor Bill Nolan explains things in an open email to George Despotis.

Sunset Hills Mayor Bill Nolan's email here explains how he believes commercial property owner George Despotis seems unclear about the advisory role of the mayor-appointed Residential Recovery Task Force looking at the city's tornado corner. As he details, the task force is limited to recommending residential solutions for the empty, tornado-ravaged spot at Lindbergh and Watson Road, since the city voted down any commercial options for it last month. The mayor points out the meetings have been properly advertised at least 24 hours prior as law requires, and official minutes recorded.

To all,

For the benefit of those of you who will not be attending the "Residential Recovery Task Force" meeting this afternoon (July 21) I will address (George Despotis') memo personally at the meeting.

He seems to have the Planning and Zoning Committee and the Board of Aldermen mixed up with the Residential Recovery Task Force. The purpose of the Task Force is to find a RESIDENTIAL solution to the tornado area.

The reason they are not considering the options Dr. Despotis mentions is because their charge is a residential solution.

Since the Planning and Zoning refused to modify the (city's) Comprehensive Plan (for Development) at their last meeting, a solution is needed to the area that is within the scope of the plan.

People who obviously favored the original proposal were not appointed (to the task force) because their predetermined views on the matter would not contribute to the work of the task force.

When the task force concludes it's work, they will present their suggestions to the Planning and Zoning Committee and another public hearing will be held where the opposing view can be presented.

This group cannot decide the outcome of the issue.

William J Nolan Jr.
Mayor
City of Sunset Hills
