The following information on Wednesday's vigil was provided by the Committee for Safe and Responsible Deer Management in a press release.
Concerned citizens from Town and Country, surrounding municipalities and individuals from Illinois are conducting a candlelight vigil on Wednesday, Dec. 27, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. along Clayton Road, at Mason Road, in Town and Country.
The vigil is organized by the Committee for Safe and Responsible Deer Management.

The organization states, “The vigil is in light of the fact that our elected officials voted to spend approximately $130,000 of public money to kill in our residential neighborhoods. This is in direct opposition to results of a City-sponsored, resident survey which indicated that 67% of respondents said to use non-lethal methods of deer management.”
The city contracted with White Buffalo, Inc., to sharpshoot deer on as little as 5 acres, and at ground level, which raises the concern for safety.

Residents that attended a recent subdivision meeting thought the City was also sterilizing deer as in previous years.
Residents are beginning to ask why our elected officials are not more forthcoming with information especially when the safety of residents is at stake.
