Rainy Forecast Not Stopping Clayton Road Work This Week

The recent weeks of rainy weather have impacted work on the Clayton Road Resurfacing and Pedestrian Enhancement Project, but Monday crews were able to get out and once again make some progress before rain made its way to the St. Louis area.

Also, unrelated to that project, work was done Monday on Clayton Road from Oak Springs Lane to Old Woods Mill Road.

Town and Country Department of Public Works Director Craig Wilde sent out the following details of the most recent Clayton Road work in an email.

We have been working diligently on completing what we can, but Mother Nature has not been terribly cooperative these past couple of weeks.  It is our goal to begin some of the grading for the trail this week as well as continue with the installation of the barrier wall on the east end of the project.  The bridge footings at the west end of the project which will carry the trail over the creek adjacent to  Sellenriek Road are substantially complete.  We anticipate significant movement on this location this week also. 

As a part of an unrelated project, Corrective Asphalt Materials will begin the placement of a penetrating sealant on Clayton Road from Oak Springs Lane to Old Woods Mill.  This is a product that we have been utilizing for several years and will help the asphalt maintain its flexibility and therefore extend its service life.  It is important to note that it will not have a long term affect on the appearance of the pavement.  Temporarily, there will be some discoloration of the pavement and the striping, but this will fade within a couple days of treatment.  Where necessary, sand will be applied to the surface to temporarily act as a blotting agent.  This will be swept up later in the day or the next day as needed.  The roadway is also scheduled to be restriped as a part of the project.  Once completed, this will position us favorably for years to come.  

Ground was broken in September and construction began in October beginning the three-phase project to repave Clayton Road from Hwy 141 to the city limits near Bopp Road.  

The project also includes creating a multi-use pedestrian trail on the north side of Clayton Road and installing a pedestrian walkway on the existing bridge over Hwy 141 which will connect the sidewalk on the north side of Clayton Road at Old Woods Mill Road to the intersection at Clayton Road and Woods Mill Road.

When completed, the trail will run the length of the city, from Town and Country Crossing in the west to the city’s eastern edge at Bopp Road.
