Manchester Plans to Offer Residents Paper Shredding Service
The decision is not final yet, but the event will likely take place Oct. 13. It would be for residents' confidential documents only and would not include newspapers and magazines.
Director Bob Ruck said the will likely hold a confidential document shredding event in the lower parking lot of on Oct. 13.
The event would run from at 9 a.m. to noon and would be for private papers and checks, not magazines and news papers.

Ruck and city aldermen are still discussing the plan and have not made a final decision yet.

It would cost the city $750, which will likely come from the waste management account, plus overtime for some public works employees.
Since the city would have to pay to hold the event, it will likely be for residents only and will be offered at no charge to residents. However, the city is asking that residents bring a canned good or non perishable item. Residents can even watch their documents be destroyed.
"It's something we probably ought to try. If it works, it works. If it doesn't, it doesn't," Mayor David Willson said.
