Although she works as a speech pathologist, Kea-House said the two decided to open the small eatery because it's always been a dream of her husband's who has worked in the hospitality business for 20 years.

"He has always wanted to have his own place," Kea-House explained.

New Leaf Cafe is open for breakfast and lunch and offers a variety of items including, quick breakfasts, homemade lunches, soups, salads and sandwiches. Customers will also find baked goods such as gourmet cupcakes.

Although the restaurant will likely be frequented more by staff from nearby medical offices because of its location, it is open to the public and Kea-House hopes to see patrons from around the area stop in and try the food.

"Pulling in that ouside business, I think that's our next step," Kea-House explained. However, she said in the short time the cafe has been open, it's been doing very well. "My husband feels like it's been going better than expected."

New Leaf Cafe is open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Kea-House said specials are also posted on the restaurant's Facebook page and on Twitter at @newleafcafestl.
