Retirement Community Hairdresser Burglarized Residents' Apartments, Police Say

A hairdresser for a retirement community was charged Wednesday with burglarizing seven apartments, stealing items valued at a total of $85,487.

Town and Country Police stated Kerri D. Spink, 39, of Imperial, stole a master key to rooms at the Garden Villas Retirement Community, 13590 South Outer 40 Road in Town and Country.

Police said between Sept. 27 and Nov. 12, 2011, Spink used the key to enter seven apartments and steal items that included jewelry, Sterling silver, collectible coins and cash.

Spink was charged Wednesday in St. Louis County Circuit Court with one count of first degree burglary, six counts of second-degree burglary and three counts of felony stealing. Spink also is suspected of removing a necklace from one victim while styling her hair, according to a news release.

During one of the burglaries, Spink entered an apartment where the resident was home, police said. She left without taking anything from that apartment, according to a police report.

Police said that jewelry valued at $50,620 has been recovered.

Bail was set at $50,000 for Spink.
