St. Louis County Library Director Resigns: 5 Things to Know

With a $108 million dollar upgrade plan on the horizon, Charles Pace resigned suddenly, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

The search is on for a new director of the St. Louis County Library, according to an article in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. 

The library is headquartered in Frontenac.

The Post reports Charles Pace resigned earlier this month, staff found out this week and an interim director has been named.

Following are a few more details about the sudden resignation, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch article.

  1. Staff members were notified of the resignation Tuesday by an email from Lynn L. Beckwith Jr., president of the library board of trustees.
  2. Pace’s resignation reportedly took effect July 12, but Beckwith gave no reason for the resignation.
  3. Kristen Sorth, assistant director of administration, is now serving as interim director for the St. Louis County Library.
  4. The library system is preparing for a 10-year, $108 million plan to update its facilities. A 6-cent raise in the district tax levy was approved by county voters in November which was to help pay for capital improvements to the library.
  5. Pace, who's been with the library since 2006, helped persuade voters to approve the library’s first tax-rate increase in almost 30 years.
