Carl E. Darigo

Carl E. Darigo, of University City, MO, died on Friday, Jan. 27, 2012, at the age of 84.

Carl was born in St. Louis on November 28, 1927 to Carl and Mary (Scalet) Darigo.

He graduated from Webster Groves High School in 1944, and received a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering (B.S.CH.E.) from in 1947. He worked for Anheuser-Busch for 43 years, retiring in 1990 as Manager of Packaging Quality Control.

Carl served in the U.S. Army at Camp Detrick, Maryland, from 1950 to 1952, during the Korean Conflict. At. Camp Detrick, he was a member of the 9766th TSU working on germ warfare. There he met his wife of 58 years, Dolly Dalgleish Darigo, who also worked at Camp Detrick. They were married at Baker Chapel on the campus of Dolly's alma mater, Western Maryland College (now McDaniel College) in Westminster, Maryland on November 28, 1953.

Following his retirement from Anheuser-Busch in 1990, Carl Worked as a Research Associate for almost 20 years in the Bryology Department of the Missouri Botanical Garden.

In addition the his wife, Dolly, Carl is survived by his daughters Susan Darigo of Denver, CO, Nancy Darigo (Paul Risse) of Anchorage, AK and Jane Darigo of Honolulu, HI and his sister Loretta Willen of San Diego, CA; grandchildren Emily Darigo, Roxanne Risse, Alex Darigo, Francesca Risse and Anton Risse; and 10 nieces and nephews.

The Funeral Service will be conducted at , 6337 Clayton Road, Clayton on Tuesday Jan. 31, at 12:30 p.m. Interment will follow with full military honors at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at , 7233 Delmar, University City on Monday, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Missouri Botanical Garden, 4344 Shaw Boulevard, St. Louis 63110 or Paraquad, 5240 Oakland Avenue, St. Louis 63110.
