State Treasurer Returns More Than $211,000

Think you might have Unclaimed Property? State Treasurer Clint Zweifel announced that his office has returned $211,000 in unclaimed property to a St. Louis area business and to a St. Louis area woman.

The $110,000 claim returned to the St. Louis area business consists of 42 separate accounts made up of accounts payable and vendor checks held as Unclaimed Property.

The $101,000 claim returned to a St. Louis area woman consists of a savings account and a dividend check. The names are not being released to protect the owners’ privacy.

“I hold 4.3 million accounts totaling nearly $700 million in Unclaimed Property – including 60 accounts worth more than $100,000 each,” Zweifel said. “In fiscal year 2012, I broke records with $38.2 million returned to 130,000 account owners and returned what is thought to be the largest individual return in the nation’s history, $6.1 million to a woman in Kansas City. My team works every day to get this property back where it belongs and with as little red tape possible because all of it matters and all of it belongs to Missourians.”

Since January 2009, the Treasurer office has returned $124 million to more than 390,000 account owners.

Sixty accounts worth more than $100,000 each remain to be returned. The geographic breakdown is:

• 24 in St. Louis County; 
• 18 in Jackson County; 
• Six in St. Louis City; 
• Three in Camden County; 
• Two in Boone County; and 
• One each in Buchanan, Butler, Clay, Cole, Franklin, Jasper and Johnson counties.
