Fore! Brentmoor Offers Senior Golfers a Chance to Play

Group of golfers meets once a week at Ruth Park Golf Course

Mark Twain might have called golf a "good walk spoiled," but he never played with the golfers from theΒ . This group is just out to have a good time.

This is the the fourth year Brentmoor has organized the Wednesday golf outing atΒ Β in University City. Anyone aged 65 and older is welcome to join the group.

The golfers range in age from 65 to 92.

"We have people from all over come to play β€” Cottleville, Hazelwood, Kirkwood, Webster," John Bell, golf organizer for Brentmoor said.

The season runs from April to October. The size of theΒ group varies each week depending on the weather, but the regulars are faithful. Bell said it can range from 20-55 golfers each week.

Chuck Quinn, one of the regulars, said the experience level of golfers ranges from novice to experienced. The golfers play by PGA rules, although there might be some 'bending' of the regulations from time to time.

"You might kick it to get a better lie, as long as you don't let people see you," Quinn joked.

The relaxed atmosphere is part of the charm of this group.

Greens fees and cart fees are covered. The Brentmoor also arranges transportation for its residents and provides the prizes for best ball each week.Β

"It's a chance to get out with friends," Phyllis Jenkins said. "I really enjoy going out and I like the people."

Bell praised Ruth Park, noting the course is always in good shape and the staff is extremely helpful.

"They just bend over backwards for us," Bell said.Β
