Man Hurls Glass Bowl at Teen, Gashing His Forehead

Several stitches were required to close up the wound, police said.

A man threw a glass bowl full of rice at a 16-year-old, gashing the teen’s forehead, University City Police reported.

Calvin Turner, 32, of the 4000 block of Cook Avenue in St. Louis, was charged Thursday with child abuse, a class C felony. As an alternative to the child abuse charge, he was charged with third-degree assault, a class A misdemeanor.

University City Police said Turner was angered because the teenager stuck up for his mother and threw the rice bowl at him. The glass bowl struck the 16-year-old in the forehead, causing a gash that required stitches, police said. The incident was Feb. 12 at a home in University City.
