Sutter-Meyer Society to Host May 7 Meeting

Annual event to include video program and silent auction.

The Sutter-Meyer Society will host its annual meeting from 7-9 p.m. on Monday, May 7, at the at 737 Kingsland Blvd. The event is free and open to the public. Β  Β  Β  Β  Β  Β 

The annual meeting is one of the Society’s largest events of the year and will feature a video program and a silent auction. The video β€”Β Bricks by Chance and FortuneΒ β€” details the history of brick-making in St. Louis and was produced by St. Louis artist and designer Bill Streeter.

Items up for bid at the event’s silent auction will include a Harley-Davidson leather jacket and leather pants, Crown Staffordshire Bone China from England, a Vasse Vaught copper Metal Crafting bird house, water-color paintings and more.

Preserved and restored by the Sutter-Meyer Society β€” a non-profit organization that was started by a group of University City residents in 2006 β€” the is thought to be the oldest building in University City.

Historians believe that the home was built around 1873. In 2004, an archeological dig around the building uncovered a limestone-lined well, a large brick cistern and an assortment of dishware, crockery, toys and buttons.
