U. City Library Receives Grant For Filmmaking, Tech Classes
Studio space, video and audio equipment, and even robotics and 3-D printing equipment are all on offer at the U. City Library.

UNIVERSITY CITY, MO β The University City Public Library has received a $68,000 grant from the Commission on Access and Local Original Programming (CALOP) to provide filmmaking and editing classes to the local community, officials announced Monday.
The money will also be spent to hire a part-tine technology trainer to teach classes on coding, robotics, and 3-D modeling for children and teens, as well as to purchase video equipment and editing software. Filmmaking classes will be taught in partnership with local organizations, such as Cinema St. Louis, and are planned to be offered for free.
βWeβre thrilled to receive this support from CALOP,β University City Public Library Director Patrick Wall said in a statement. βThe popularity of our teen video camps this summer shows that there is a demand in the community for more creative technology experiences. Weβre excited to be offering additional opportunities for our patrons to learn about and use this technology.β

The library has previously held summer video workshops for teens and offers a technology "makerspace" created with additional grant funding. That space includes a 3-D printer and scanner, robotics equipment, a video and audio recording studio, video cameras and recording equipment, and video and audio editing software. All are available for free, officials said.
