U City School Meal Prices Going Up Next Year

The School District of University City approved a rate change for the 2013-14 school year.

Meal prices at School District of University City schools are going up next school year. The Board of Education approved the hike at its meeting Thursday.

Lunch prices are going up 15 cents, to $1.90 at the elementary level and $2.30 at the secondary level. Breakfast rates are going up 10 cents to $1.10 and $1.35.Β 

The new contract for service extends through the 2017-18 school year.

The district had three companies seek a Request for Proposal (RFP), but only Chartwells submitted a bid. Chartwells is the district's current provider.

According to the board action item, the administration believes the contract renewal will "amount to a cost savings of approximately $18,000." The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) will provide the rate increases, based on inflationary increases in food costs, for the remaining four years of the contract.
