As Mayor I am encouraging Council to move forward and recognize University City’s position in the region, the country and, ultimately, the world. In this global economy, we need to talk to the region, nation and the world. Â
University City prides itself on its diversity. If you look at the diversity of the City as reflected in the Delmar Loop, along Olive, and in our schools, then the City logo should reflect that. The old, albeit historic logo, does not reflect that diversity. The branded logo does , while incorporating the historic features of the old logo.Â
The previous Council authorized the City Manager to engage in the branding process when it approved the FY2012 budget. This was a five month process, incorporating input from residents from all over the City. All members of Council had ample opportunity to provide input throughout those many months. It’s a disservice to our community to say nothing for months; allow the City to expend funds for implementing the new marketing approach; and only then seek to kill the effort. This speaks to politics, not to doing what is best for our community.
University City IS the neighborhood to the world. I’m sorry that, now, so few people will know this.
