Wong's Wok Is The Latest Delmar Loop Restaurant To Close

UNIVERSITY CITY, MO — The Riverfront Times reports Wong's Wok is the latest restaurant in The Loop to close its doors.

It now joins a growing list of restaurants and retailers that have shut their shopfronts in University City's trendy business district, including Doughocracy, Rocket Fizz, HSB Tobacconist and Snarf's, which all closed earlier this year.

Business owners have cited decreased foot traffic and declining sales, with many blaming a multi-million dollar trolley that has yet to materialize. Financed in part by a districtwide sales tax, the Loop Trolley was supposed to bring more customers to The Loop, but has instead turned into a growing money pit.

The Loop Trolley Company said last year it needed another half million dollars cash before it could begin service. Two local real estate development firms — Clayco and CRG — announced in December they would front the money, but as of May, the company has yet to announce a date for service to begin.
