5 Things: Maggie Hassan's Inaugural Ball This Weekend

1. Weather Report: Make up your mind weather. Today will be sunny with a high of 41 degrees. Tomorrow will be mostly clear with a low of 24 degrees. Tomorrow will keep the warm temperatures and add a few showers to your day.

2. 'Ello Governor. Gov. Maggie Hassan's second Inaugural Ball is this Saturday, Jan. 12, at the Mount Washington Hotel. New Hampshire's newest governor was sworn in last week, replacing the popular John Lynch.

3. Bad taste in your mouth. Did you know: Smoking greatly diminishes a person's ability to taste. In one study, researchers found that after smoking two cigarettes in 15 minutes, 73 percent of the participants had a harder time detecting bitter organic compounds.

5. Congrats! Zachery Ladd of Amherst Boy Scout Troop 22 has achieved his Eagle Scout rank. The rank of Eagle Scout is the highest Rank in the BSA and a title held for life.  Some well know Eagles include Gerald Ford, Neil Armstrong, Michael Bloomberg, Steven Spielberg, and Donald Rumsfeld. Zachery completed his Eagle Scout project at PMEC in Amherst.  He has updated the amphitheater using the planning, development and leadership skills he has learned during his 11 years in boy scouts.  Zack took on rebuilding the benches and podium in the outdoor theater along with landscaping.  He also added gravel and gardens to minimize future erosion of the sloping hillside. Zack is a junior at Souhegan High School. He is an avid outdoorsman and member of the SHS First Robotics Team. He is employed at Moulton's Market and will be pursuing a college degree and eventual career in Engineering.
