There is an iPhone app that connects users to recipes tailor that can help fight off cancer. The Ask The Nutritionist: Recipes for Fighting Cancer app contains over a hundred easy-to-prepare recipes ranging from nutritious snacks to good-for-you main dishes to delicious desserts.

3. Hungy Hippos. Did you know: A hippopotamus can open its mouth wide enough to accommodate a four-foot-tall (1.2-meter) child.

4. Go volunteers! Kohl’s Department Stores will be accepting nominations for outstanding young volunteers beginning next week for the 2013 Kohl’s Cares Scholarship Program. Nominations for kids ages six to 18 will be accepted February 1 – March 15 at kohlskids.com, and nominators must be 21 years or older. Through the program, Kohl’s will award more than 2,300 young volunteers more than $425,000 in scholarships and prizes to reward kids who have made a positive impact on their communities.

5. Congrats! Samuel Petersen of Amherst, a junior majoring in electrical and computer engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), recently completed an intensive, hands-on research project in Costa Rica. The project was titled Improving Energy Efficiency in Central America and the Caribbean Through the Expansion of the EnerG Tech Investment.
