5 Things to Do In NH This Weekend

We found the fun for you.

1. Take pictures with some big animals! Bring your camera to the Anheuser-Busch factory in Merrimack and have your picture taken with a world-famous Budweiser Clydesdale! The photo session takes place Saturday from 1-3 p.m. While visiting, enjoy a free tour of the brewery, and visit the Gift Shop.

2. Catch bugs! Join Angie Krysiak, Program Naturalist for a Dragonfly Workshop at the Massabesic Audubon Center. Come watch a slide show about these beautiful and beneficial insects, then head outside to learn the art of catching dragonflies! We’ll learn tricks to catching and handling, what equipment to use, as well as how to identify some of our most common species. We’ll even walk to the pond to look for dragonfly nymphs.

3. Rock on! Rock band Shinedown will be hitting the road this summer in support of their new studio album Amaryllis! The tour will make a stop at the Verizon Wireless Arena on July 6 starting at 7 p.m. Accompanying Shinedown on tour will be supporting bands Papa Roach and In This Moment.

4. A stunning modern show! The Janice B. Streeter Theatre in Nashua will premiere “Snow: the Modern Opera" on Friday at 6 p.m. It is a modern day fable of redemption and has been compared to the Who’s Tommy and Genesis’ The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. New Hampshire’s Dylan Gamblin has spent the last two years adapting “Snow” for the stage. Snow is a young man with a gift to emotionally heal with the touch of his hand.

5. Brush off the blues! Canterbury Shaker Village will be hosting a 1920's Shaker Hat Brush Workshop on Saturday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Build two Shaker-style, "fancy goods" hat brushes, as seen in 1920’s Shaker catalogs. Pick your handle wood of choice, turn it on a lathe in the brush shop, wrap on a brush head of horsehair upholstery cloth and attach an outer velvet cover. Learn a little Shaker history while you discover wood finishes, how to sharpen a tool and other valuable skills and information. Your class fee is a tax-deductible donation that will be applied to the Canterbury Shaker Village Pump House project. Suitable for all learner levels.
