1. Weather Report: The storm before the calm. Today will be The weekend will be dry, much warmer and looks to be an overall good time.

2. Snow adventure! The Peabody Mill Environmental Center will be open Saturday, Jan. 12 from 12-4 p.m. for snowshoe rentals. Snowshoes are available in a variety of sizes. If you can walk, you can snowshoe! Fee is $6 for Amherst residents and $8 for nonresidents.

3. For the science nerds: A parabola is one of the curves most used in science. If a ballplayer hits a high fly, the path of the ball is nearly a parabola.

4. Local author continues to share miracle. Jennifer D'Auteuil of Amherst will be hosting a book event at Barnes & Noble Manchester this Saturday from 2-4 p.m. to share "Anatomy of a Miracle: Drew's Story" Read more about her story on Amherst Patch.

5. Congrats! Sarah Regan, a junior from Amherst, has recently been named to the Honor Roll for the winter term at The Loomis Chaffee School. Located in historic Windsor, Connecticut, Loomis Chaffee is an internationally recognized college preparatory school for grades 9-12 that fosters critical thinking and a global perspective in talented students from around the state, the country and the world.
