Amherst 2012 Election Winners and Losers

See who Amherst voters chose at the general election this year.

New Hampshire voters came out in force today, and the Town of Amherst was no exception.

Over 7,500 voters showed up to the polls today to cast their ballot, slightly beat the voter turnout of 7,429 in 2008.

Amherst has chosen three state representatives to lead the town today: Republicans Robert Rowe and Peter Hansen, and Democrat Shannon Chandley.

Chandley received the highest number of votes with 3,018 voters behind her this year, followed by Rowe's 2925. Hansen came in third with 2,895 votes.

Candidates Stephen Stepanek (R), Steve Morgan (D) and John Shonle (D) lost the seats this year. Restore The Center party members Cynthia Dokmo and Bob Heaton came in last place against their Republican and Democratic opponents.

Republicans dominated on the county level in Amherst with each contest going to their party this year. We will have the full results of all of the county races for you tomorrow once all the votes are calculated.

Congress 2nd District candidate Charlie Bass also beat his Democratic opponent, Ann Kuster, in Amherst by 706 votes.

Newly-elected governor Maggie Hassan squeaked by in Amherst with just 78 more votes than her Republican opponent Ovide Lamontagne. On a national level we see Romney taking Amherst, but he could not grab the rest of the state this year.

On the ballot questions, Amherst voters showed support for banning an income tax and more legislative control over the administration of state courts.
