Amherst Deli Closes, Sweet Business On The Way?
Euro Deli may be replaced by a new chocolatier who wants to bring something special to Amherst.
A local deli on Route 101A may soon be replaced by something a bit more indulgent.
The European Delicatessen (or Euro Deli) within Cobblestone Corner in Amherst recently closed its doors after seven years of business with its new owner. The German specialty store was owned by Darsi Renshaw after she took over the business in 2008.
A Milford chocolatier named Maria Marini, who runs the Chocolate Fanatic, is looking to move her business into the vacant space, according to executive director of the Souhegan Valley Chamber of Commerce May Balsama.

Balsama said that Marini is definitely interested in the location, although nothing is official at the moment. Rumor has it that she also wants to include gelato in the store, which will surely be a welcome addition to town.
The Euro Deli had closed in 2004 after the retirement of Waltraud Steinbrueck, who founded the business in 1971. The store was reopened by Peter and Esthela Rothe in 2005 before they passed it on to Renshaw.

The deli sold German baked goods, meats, cheeses, seafood and other unique products. It had been voted the by Amherst Patch readers this year.
