Amherst Fire Names New Lieutenant

Chris Buchanan was promoted at the Board of Selectmen meeting on Monday.

This ambitious young firefighter is now the Amherst Fire Department’s newest lieutenant.

Chris Buchanan was sworn into his new position at Monday’s board of selectmen meeting. He has served as a volunteer firefighter with the department for almost six years.

Amherst Fire Chief Mark Boynton said at the meeting that Buchanan has “stepped up” in the department. He even took on extra responsibilities when a senior firefighter was deployed, and again when he was injured.

“Its always been a real honor for me to be a part of the Amherst Fire Department,” he said on Tuesday. “They have been a big part of my life, and for me to take this step and contribute is a big deal for me.”

He is looking to help out any way he can towards the success of both the department and the town it resides. The other firefighters have had such an influence on his life for the past six years, and Buchanan is looking forward to his future there.

“I am surrounded by a bunch of great people,” he said.
