Amherst Police Names New Lieutenant
Anthony E. Ciampoli was promoted to lieutenant at Monday's Board of Selectmen meeting.
The Amherst Police Department has chosen a new lieutenant to fill the vacancy left by James Brace earlier this year.
Anthony E. Ciampoli was surrounded by friends and family as he was sworn into his new position at the board of selectmen meeting on Monday.
“He has proven his worth time and time again,” said Amherst Police Chief Peter Lyon.

Ciampoli has been with the department about 10 years, and was promoted to sergeant in 2006.
“I got very, very lucky and picked a department I fell in love with immediately,” he said. “I am ecstatic about the opportunity and to be able to attain a rank that solidifies my position here.

Lyon said he wanted to look within the department after former lieutenant James Brace accepted took the position of police chief in New Boston in March. He said Ciampoli was a “natural choice” to fill the vacant position.
“He wants to be a part of the community,” he said. “I think he really cares about the police department and being as professional as he can.”
Ciampoli lives in Amherst with his wife Rebecca and son Colton.
He said that he is looking forward to this new chapter in his career and getting familiar with the new rank.
“I have some very big shoes to fill, and I hope I can keep up to the same caliber that the town of Amherst deserves,” said Ciampoli.
