Amherst Town Warrant Heads To Vote Unchanged

Only minor edits were made at the town's deliberative session on Wednesday.

Wednesday's deliberative session for the Town of Amherst went by with little fanfare.

The 2013 Amherst Town Warrant will now head to voters with only minor corrections. The proposed operating budget for Amherst has been set at $11,414,625, with the default budget calculated at $11,269,800.

Some residents took issue with the fact that selectman are including $200,000 that was approved by voters last year for roadwork in the default budget. Selectmen intend to use this money on further roadwork, but the funds could be used in other areas of the budget.

Warrant articles include funding for repair to the Amherst Town Hall, a replacement fire engine, police contract and discontinuing certain capital reserve funds.

The only issue that really raised debate was a petition article to designate Walnut Hill Road as a scenic road.
