Your Guide: Antiques on the Green Returns to Amherst

18th annual antique show supports scholarship given each year to a graduating senior.

Visit the 18th annual “Antiques on the Green” event on Sept. 14, if you are interested in finding quality antiques in a quintessential New England setting.

Held on the historic Amherst Village Green, this time honored show is hosted by the Historical Society of Amherst. Proceeds support an annual scholarship given to a graduating senior.

The show is held from 9 a.m.-3 p.m, rain or shine. Quality antique dealers from all over New England bring a wide selection of small and large antiques of interest. You will find things to furnish your home, decorate for the holidays or enhance an outfit with a special piece of jewelry. Admission fee is $5 and includes a free raffle ticket. Additional raffle tickets may be purchased, and drawings will be held each hour.

During our show, community friends will provide music, displays of historical interest and tips for collectors. Jason Hackler from the New Hampshire Antique Co-op will provide appraisals at 11 a.m. and David Searles will appraise jewelry at the same hour. New this year is the “Attic Treasures” sale booth, chock full of donated items from the homes of society members. Amherst Gardens will decorate the town green and sell seasonal items to help prepare local homes for the approach of autumn. Jakes Ice Cream will also be on hand to serve tasty treats.

Two museums owned and operated by the Historical Society are within walking distance of the Common and will be open the day of the show. There is no charge to enter the Wigwam or Chapel museums. Those attending can also enjoy food from various local vendors. For more information, visit  www.hsanh.org.
