A new aquatic sport has come to Amherst thanks to the efforts of local athletes.
The Baboosic Lake Rowing Program kicked off on Monday for teens and adults. The three week program is a first in Amherst, and is thanks to coaches Jim Kaveney and Tim Cotreau.
The two have been working to bring the sport of rowing and add something different to recreation at Baboosic Lake. Combined they have over 30 years of rowing experience to offer this Amherst Recreation program.

“Rowing is a sport that anyone can learn. It is graceful and may look easy, but the beauty of the sport requires hard work and persistence. The habits and lessons that can be taken from rowing will help in all avenues of life,” said Cotreau on Amherst Recreation's website.
Cotreau currently works as a guidance counselor at Souhegan High School, and began his rowing career in the fall of 2003 at the University of Massachusetts. Kaveney has been involved with the sport of rowing for about 20 years.
