Amherst Citizen Group Questions Town Administrator's Absence

The Amherst Citizens Association said that the public has a right to know what is going on.

Many concerned citizens are seeking answers on the secrecy surrounding the departure of the Amherst town administrator last month, according to The Union Leader.

The Amherst Citizens Association is calling for more transparency on why Jim O'Mara was put on administrative leave. They also want to know whether $11.5 million in recent financial adjustments played a role, or a failed lease agreement on a DPW dump truck.

O'Mara took the position in fall 2011 after serving as an Amherst selectman. He was formerly the superintendent of the Hillsborough County Department of Corrections, and on the Amherst School Board for six years.

No word on when he will be returning to his position in town hall. Town officials have refused to comment on the issue and denied Right-To-Know requests, citing it as a private employee matter.
