Colorful Coats, Improv and Folk This Weekend!

1. Nice coat! The Palace Theater in Manchester will present Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat on Friday, Mar. 22 beginning at 7:30 p.m. Any Dream Will Do! Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's entertaining family musical retelling of the biblical story of Joseph, his devoted father, his jealous brothers, and his incredible series of adventures. Filled with spectacular costumes and high energy dance numbers, the story is told through a variety of musical styles! Tickets are sold at the door for $15-45.

2. Improv! Comedian Jacqueline Kabat will lead a workshop in using improvisational comedy to reenergize with laughter from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, at Nia NH and Yoga, 110 Route 101A, Amherst. Kabat will share the basic principles of comedy improv that participants can use to develop personal potential in everyday life. In a relaxed, safe environment, participants will gain the mental tools needed to be completely present in each moment and open to whatever happens, while increasing confidence, improving relationship skills, and learning to deal creatively with ambiguous or constantly changing circumstances. Kabat can be seen doing stand-up comedy and emceeing shows at New York clubs, including Gotham Comedy Club, Comix, and Caroline’s on Broadway. She teaches improv at theaters, medical centers, Fortune 500 corporations, and spas around the world. Cost of the workshop is $75. 3. Folk! Judy Collins will be at the Tupelo Music Hall in Londonderry on Friday, Mar. 22 at 8 p.m. Folk music doesn’t produce stars bigger than Judy Collins. For nearly 50 years, she has been performing and recording folk, pop, and art music at a very high level. A classical piano prodigy, Collins turned to folk music early on, embracing the social and musical elements of the movement. Her performances since the mid-1970s have balanced her original material with her other hits and gems by artists such as the Beatles and Harry Chapin—all showcases for her haunting, focused voice.

5. Under the sea! The Peacock Players in Nashua will present Disney's The Little Mermaid on Friday, Mar. 22 from 7-9 p.m. In a magical kingdom fathoms below, the beautiful young mermaid Ariel longs to leave her ocean home to live as a part of the world above. But first, she’ll have to defy her father King Triton, make a deal with the evil sea witch Ursula, and convince Prince Eric that she’s the girl with the enchanting voice. Adapted from Disney’s 2008 Broadway production, Disney’s THE LITTLE MERMAID JR. features the hit songs Part of Your World, She’s in Love, and the Oscar-winning Under the Sea.
