Dirty Smear Politics Make Me Want To Cry Too

Are you sick and tired Of 'Bronco Bamma,' Mitt Romney and all of the political attacks?

Put on your party hats and break out your finest champagne: this election season is almost over.

Many of us feel like this girl on the right, who recently became a viral sensation by expressing her distaste for all of the argument surrounding "Bronco Bamma" and Mitt Romney. I think we are all sick of the back-and-forth game of rhetoric Pong we call the election cycle.

The world will be a beautiful place after the November 6 elections. No more will we drive down the road and be forced to see a politician’s name plastered onto a fancy logo on the side of the road. Facebook will once again be a safe place to share your dinner plans and song quotes without somebody making it political.

Right now, each side seems to have made it a point to see just how ridiculous they can get on one another. We have all had enough of the political campaigns at this point in the year.

It is not that we don’t care about politics, and I have talked to many supporters who are legitimately care about the issues we face in this country. We are just tired of the onslaught of negative campaigning and utter nonsense to convince us to check a candidate on the ballot.

For example, here is how the Barack Obama (aka Bronco Bamma) and Mitt Romney camps would respond to their opponent stubbing their toe:

Romney: My opponent can’t get the economy back on track, and apparently he cannot keep himself on track. My friends, his carelessness has caused his foot to hit a wall, much like the wall of debt this nation is facing. Can we really trust a clumsy president for four more years?

Obama: It seems that Governor Romney cannot decide which foot is best to put forward.  Let me be clear, this blatant flip flopping has caused him to overlook where he was stepping, just like he has overlooked the middle class in his campaign. Does he even care about the 47 percent of Americans who have stubbed their toe this year?

It is sad that this is not too far off from the truth. These campaigns have been working 24/7 to smear their opponent however possible, and we have to deal with it. Negative ads are thrown into our face and treating us like toddlers afraid of the Bogeyman.

I cannot even watch my cute kitten videos on Youtube without an advertisement telling me that a candidate hates my mother and spits into my coffee each morning. That is a problem.

The truth of it is that every candidate has good ideas and some bad ones. None of them hate America or yell at newborn puppies, but there are certainly bad apples in the bunch. I want every voter to tell their favorite candidate that negative campaign ads are an insult to the political process and cheapen the spirit of democracy.

Politics can get better by doing our part to focus on facts and get dragged down into this kill or be killed style of democracy. Our country works best when we work together instead of pushing each other away.

They want you to vote on whatever manufactured scandal or half-truth makes you hate the other guy more. I want you to vote based on the issues you care about and the character of the candidate. Read news stories from multiple sources, consider othr viewpoints and take EVERYTHING with a grain of salt.

Now is the time to think about how how you would like to see political campaigns operate, because next campaign cycle will come before you know it. They will keep their operations in the ditches of human decency unless it becomes known that their tactics won’t work on a public hungry for nutritious facts over political junk food.

As entertaining as it is sometimes, it will be refreshing to read less stories about how a candidate hurting his toe will destroy the country.
