Friends of George Infanti Share Memories (And Laughs)

The Milford NH Rotary Club held a surprise celebration for his lifetime of contribution to several communities.

George Infanti thought he was going to see a comedy troupe when he arrived at the Boys & Girls Club of Souhegan Valley in Milford yesterday, but the joke was on him.

The Milford NH Rotary hosted a surprise celebration for the retiring Amherst selectman in honor of his 40 years of dedication to the towns of Milford, Amherst and Wilton.

Infanti has contributed to countless boards, committees and nonprofits across these New Hampshire towns, and has made a big impression on all of them.

Fellow Rotarians looked back on Infanti’s life and his efforts to make the world a better, and funnier, place. He was given a few good-natured jabs as he was roasted by his friends, but the focus of this celebration was on all he has accomplished for others.

“You couldn’t roast George for all he has done over the years,” said his brother Jim Infanti. “George is a lot of fun to be around, and you never know what is going to happen next.”

Master of ceremonies Steve Desmarais shared stories of Infanti’s hard work over the years and across towns. This includes his contribution to getting funding for Milford Town Hall renovations and the construction of Centennial Park down the street.

Of course, his friends had to poke fun at Infanti’s love for being in parades, attracting the ladies and causing mischief. Landscaper Chuck Simpson, who designed Centennial Park, shared his experiences with Infanti over the years.

“George always stirs things up,” said Simpson. “Quiet and calm have never been in George's realm. In a room of 100 people, his thought would be ‘100 new friends.’”

Former U.S. Rep. Charlie Bass also came to honor Infanti’s legacy and kinship over the past twenty years.

“Thank you for your friendship, and for your service to the community. I am so happy to be here today to honor you."

The longtime community fixture was awarded the Stan Powers Award 2012/13 and as a Paul Harris Fellow for the second time by the Rotary.

His influence on the surrounding area has been felt by all in attendance that day. Infanti has touched each and every one of them in countless ways. The following are some highlights:

“Your composure, your demeanor, your intellect, your knowledge of the community and your caring for the community is fantastic. You are a godsend and god bless you.”

“George, we are so proud to have you as a friend, there is just nobody better.”

“George has always known that laughter is the best medicine.”

Yankee Chef catered the event, including Infanti’s giant lobster dish (which is his personal favorite.) He thanked his friends for coming together and being with him all of these years.

"The many friends that are here today, old friends that go way way back. Words cannot express how I feel," he said. "I just don't know what to say. I look around the room and memories of so many years and so much fun."
