Hannah Parrott Takes AMS Geography Bee!

She will now prepare to qualify for the state geography bee in spring.

On Friday, Jan. 11, the Amherst Middle School held their annual Geography Bee finalist competition. A total of 37 students from grades 5, 6, 7 and 8 participated after moving forward from the preliminary rounds. 

After intense rounds of questioning, Hannah Parrott, of Grade 7, was declared this year’s AMS Geography Bee winner. Parrott won the Geography Bee last year for the Mont Vernon Village School, and also was  a school-wide winner at Allendale Columbia School in Rochester, NY in a previous year. 

The runner up was Nicki Hitt, a grade 6 student.  Nicki Hitt was the runner-up in last year’s AMS competition.

This year’s finalist competition was extremely competitive and the number of students remaining until the final rounds was at a record high number.

Hannah Parrott will now prepare to take the written National Geography Bee exam, which will determine if she qualifies for the New Hampshire State Geography Bee that will be held on Friday, April 5 in a “to be announced” location. The National Geography Bee Final Rounds will be held on Wednesday, May 22nd, 2013.
