Help Determine Future Wetlands and Watershed Ordinance
Work session scheduled for tonight at Souhegan High School information center.

In March, 2013, the Town of Amherst and the Planning Board were awarded a grant of $29,300 to combine and update the water resource ordinances with current Best Management Practices for the Watershed Conservation, Wetlands Protection and Aquifer Conservation Districts in order to protect the high quality drinking water and watershed of the Town of Amherst and the Region. The revisions to these ordinances will be an important contribution to protecting the Town’s and Region’s natural resources, while
providing clear guidance for land use management and future development of the community.
The Planning Board, consultants and the Advisory Team will host a work session on the first draft of the revised wetlands and watershed ordinances on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 7:30 pm in Room 202, the Information Center, at Souhegan High School. A copy of the draft is available online at the Community Development Office’s Special Projects webpage. The purpose of the work session is to collectively review and discuss the proposed ordinance and definition changes.
Additional meetings will be scheduled later this fall as the draft Wetlands & Watershed Conservation District and the Aquifer Protection ordinances continue to undergo revisions. The goal is to be ready for public hearings in December, to finalize the language for the March town vote.
