Learn to be a Birdwatching Professional

Learn more about birdwatching in New Hampshire from expert Eric Masterson.

Amherst Town Library:

The Amherst Town Library presents “Birdwatching in New Hampshire” on Wednesday, July 24 at 7 p.m.  It is the fourth program in the summer series for adults, Breaking New Ground. Eric Masterson, author of the recently published bookBirdwatching in New Hampshire, will present an audiovisual presentation on finding the more than 300 species of birds that occur annually in New Hampshire.

Finding good birds can be summed up in two words, where and when.  Masterson’s book contains maps to more than 120 of the best birding sites in New Hampshire, and during the presentation, he will focus on the question when. And, the whenis not just a function of the calendar.  Wind, rain, and habitat all change, sometimes rapidly, to create ideal conditions for seeing the best that New Hampshire has to offer.

His book, Birdwatching in New Hampshire, has just been released by University Press of New England: “Eric Masterson has written an excellent bird-finding guide. It is clearly written, beautifully illustrated, and nicely designed. Not only does he give clear descriptions of where to find birds in New Hampshire, but he also details when and under what weather conditions they are most likely seen. Up-to-date references to internet sites are also a welcome feature. This guide is a must-have for anybody birding New England.” –Don and Lillian Stokes.
