New Souhegan Mascot, Seal Revealed

Souhegan High School updated its designs to rebrand the school for the digital age.

Students at Souhegan High School will have a very different mascot when they return to show their school spirit in the fall.

Souhegan has unveiled its new designs for the SHS seal and Saber mascot. They were voted in by the school community of students, faculty and support staff this summer. The options presented were the original school seal and mascot and two new designs.

The change came from issues with the old designs as the school transitioned communications to the digital age. The old images were too intricate to fit into a Facebook profile or website logo.

The new logos will be displayed on a variety of media including the web, print publications, athletic and activity uniforms and other applications.

The SHS Community Council, comprised of representatives of community, school board, students, support staff and teachers, recommended the school wide vote as a vehicle for everyone to express their preference regarding the potential change. It was a decisive vote for the new seal and mascot. The overwhelming majority voted for a change and the majority voted for the new “crest logo” and new saber graphics.

The high school will still honor the original Saber logo, which was created by alumni Tilea Warren Toy in 1995. It will remain as the central graphic on the gymnasium floor and ensconced on the athletic tribute wall.

SHS remains a member of the Coalition of Essential Schools which will be noted on letterhead and other documents.
