Patterns and Shape In Architecture at Amherst Town Library

The Friends of the Library would like to give Ruth Ann Esch a warm welcome as she displays her intriguing photographs for the month of the November at the Amherst Town Library. Ruth Ann is a Suncook resident who had participated in “Celebrating the Harvest” art show last October at the library with a beautiful fall themed photograph. This year she will be showing an architectural series of photographs highlighting unique aspects of buildings through pattern, shape, and color.  The show will run through out the month of November with a chance to meet Ruth Ann on Nov. 3 for an artist reception on the main floor of the Amherst Town Library from 2 to 4 p.m.  

“When I reached middle age, some years ago now, I decided to take an enrichment course in photography. My teacher at the New Hampshire Institute of Art in Manchester, encouraged us students in our efforts at being creative and each week critiqued our photos with kindness and humor. One of her comments to me one time was, 'What were you thinking?.' With her guidance, I kept trying.” 

Ruth Ann enjoyed the class so much, she repeated it three times.  

With the class and growth into her hobby, Ruth Ann developed her own photographic style that is simple and colorful with an emphasis on shapes and patterns.  She still uses a film base camera and develops the photographs without the aid of computers. Her eye focuses on the innate beauty in areas of buildings that would often be missed by causal glances. Ruth Ann has enter a few photographs in local competitions where they have gain recognition.  She has been enjoying this challenging pastime ever since.
