Project Laying Groundwork For New Business

Excavation project will leave room for more companies to move into town.

An earth removal project in town will leave room for industrial business to make its way into town.

Planning Director Sarah Marchant said that the gravel removal project that is underway Howe Drive in Amherst will leave the property open for industrial use. It is being handled by Nash Family Investments and Ballinger Properties.

The project has been underway for over a month and will remove 180,000 cubic yards of material, which goes to the Nashua Airport expansion project. Excavation should end before the end of the year, and then the land will continue to have material removed bit by bit.

The 22 acres land will then be ready for industrial development, which Marchant said would increase the town’s tax base. She added that it is all being done very professionally and is excited to have this project in Amherst.

“It is nice to see a gravel removal plan that plans for future development,” said Marchant.

The operation has been operating under a federal gravel removal exemption because it is providing material for the airport expansion, but needed board approval in order to go beyond that. This is the first project done using the .
