Pumpkin painting contest starts today. Amherst Orthodontics' 22nd annual Great Pumpkin Contest starts now. Pick up pumpkins starting Oct. 1, return decorated by Oct. 29 – no carving. Winners will receive gift certificates to Target, awarded to the first, second and third place winners in three categories – funniest, scariest and most original. Winners will be announced Friday, Nov. 1.

At the library. Meet Julia Child! is a live performance featuring 'Julia Child' doing what she does best.  The audience will learn about her life--from privileged childhood in California when she had no interest in food, except for eating what the family's private chef prepared--to becoming one of the culinary legends of all time.  And, the audience will have the opportunity to view 'Julia' on the set of The French Chef, an amusing and fun experience.  After the performance, the cast will open up for discussion regarding Julia Child.  The Delvena Theatre Company has been entertaining audiences for over twenty years with plays that are thought-provoking, often humorous, and always enriching. Join the Amherst Town Library for this show Tuesaday, Oct. 1,  7-8:30 p.m.

Help raise money for breast cancer research. Southern New Hampshire Medical Center's social media charity campaign for the month of October is going to help fund breast cancer research. According to the area hospital, for each new like it receives on Facebook this month, the SNHMC will donate a dollar to the New Hampshire Breast Cancer Coalition. What a worthy cause!
