Roadwork Will Not Affect July 4th Parade, Says DPW Director

Although behind schedule, the work of Cross and Middle Street won't affect parade.

Roadwork at the center of Amherst Village will not affect the July Fourth celebrations this week, according to Amherst DPW Director Bruce Berry.

The center of the historic district where the festivities take place has also been a construction zone as crews work on Middle and Cross Street. Berry said that the base asphalt has been placed just in time last week.

Work was supposed to be finished before Memorial Day, but a delay in the watermain pipe installation in the construction zone set that goal back.

Berry said the roads in that area will not be perfect, but his crews have been cleaning it up the best they can. A top coat on will not be put into place until September in case there are any issues with the road base.
